About the Course

The Safety Intervention  program equips support workers with essential, person-centered skills to prevent, de-escalate, and safely manage distress and crisis behaviors.

Designed around safety, care, and dignity, this training provides staff with practical tools to recognize early signs of distress, communicate effectively during high-stress situations, and implement safe physical interventions only as a last resort.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify Early Warning Signs: Recognize the stages of behavior escalation and underlying causes of distress.
• De-escalation Strategies: Apply effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to diffuse challenging situations safely.
• Risk Assessment: Assess risks in real-time to make safe, ethical decisions prioritizing the welfare of both staff and service users.
• Safety Interventions: Understand and execute non-restrictive (and where accredited, restrictive) physical safety interventions as a last resort.
• Post-Crisis Support: Conduct effective debriefing and post-crisis recovery for both individuals and support staff.
