CQC Regulation 18 (Staffing) requires staff to receive appropriate support, training and development for their role, with training needs monitored over time.
NICE guidance recommends an annual review of the knowledge, skills and competence of staff who support people with medicines, and new staff should be assessed before they give medicines.
Hoists and slings must be checked before use and examined regularly, and staff need training that matches the equipment and people they support.
We currently offer three courses: Basic Life Support (6 hours), Moving and Handling of People (5 hours) and Medication Awareness and Administration (4 hours). Each costs £60.
All our courses are live, instructor-led sessions delivered in person, so you can practise techniques and get feedback from the trainer straight away.
Yes. After the session and a short end-of-course quiz, you receive a certificate of attendance that you can add to your training record.
Our course certificates are valid for one year. Your employer may set its own refresher schedule, so check your workplace training policy as well.
Care workers, nurses, senior carers and support staff, people starting a career in care, and anyone who needs these skills at work. The Basic Life Support course is also open to anyone who wants to learn emergency skills.
Yes. Care providers can contact us to arrange training for several staff members, and we will discuss which courses fit your service and team.
Training gives you the knowledge you need, but your employer decides when you can give medicines. Employers should assess your competence first, and NICE guidance recommends reviewing it every year.
